@inverseactuality Don't get me wrong, i think civilians should be armed. But they should join reputable civil militia, with mandatory training and wear insignia(hat, badge, ..) when carrying in public. It is a great way to help the community and would avoid confusion about who are the 'bad' guy in case of shooting.
I can see them, unlike cops, actually protecting and serving the citizen. Maybe get between the police and peoples during protests to prevent cop abuse...

Exactly, open carry is horrible and lead to gunfights. Any verbal violence or misunderstanding will degenerate quickly into even bigger gunfight as 'civilian sheepdog' join in defense of whoever they think is the victim.
When fraction of second matter in life and death situations, you must shot first an violent and armed person.

@CAMPERMW3 They are loaded. I live in Oregon and the laws are different from California. Oregon is more relaxed with gun control, so we have less crime here.
