  • is that a herzog

  • @MultiMonster69 Ah, I don't think so but I'm not sure.

  • that is so cool, I've never seen one of those before, just the older ones!

  • @gomile1000 Thanks.

  • I have a chance to watch these machines doing their work on a nearby railroad every month or so. I always wondered, is there a human operator controling the tamper, or is it automated. If so,

how does it sense the position of the sleepers?

  • @Seremis I'm not sure about this unit. hope someone answer your question.

  • It is called a tamper. It is basically shoving the ballast (the rock) under the railroad ties to help keep everything in place and make the track more durable.

  • I know ALOT of tracks that could use this machine. :-)

  • @juggernogify The unit in front called a dynamic tamper lifts up the track and straightens and levels the rails it can lift up 80mm or 60mm left or right, at the same time the tines of the tamper plunges into gravel to squeeze and compact the rock under and between the ties, they also vibrate at 35 times a second.

The second unit is called a stablizer unit further vibrates and compacts the ballast rock tightly around the ties to stabilize them in place.

  • @ussoldierrail Thank you, your very welcome. Plasser & Theurer builds some of the finest track machines its just funny no one in this country seems to know about them? They now have a 4X tamper thats even faster.

  • @doktorbimmer GREAT finaly someone who actault takes the time to answer questions! not one of these foamers who wants you to go there web site and make u a newbie then try to act like high school science club teachers pets. Same as the wanna be number one pics and vids idiots. GOD BLESS ya brother and thank you

  • What does it do?

  • @MultiMonster69 No, Plasser&Theurer.. made in Austria

  • @NaughtyBwoi Basicly its two machines in one, besides being a high speed tamper its also whats called a 'Liner' or Track Alignment machine.

There are sets of rollers clamped around the rails, as it moves forward it straightens and levels the track at the same time its tamping.

If the tracks not level and straight the locomotive and cars will sway back and forth or hunt left to right, snaking its way down the tracks causing lots of wear to both the track and the train equipment.

  • @doktorbimmer please elabroate mate, im really intrigued. thank u in advance

  • @HotshotMC2 for sure now emd40 sd2
