@elitestar he was using it without having it mounted to his camera, so i'd assume that it would work, because it doesn't seem to draw power from the hot shoe just the external power
@michael1980123 LOL yes I know what they're for, and yes they are called gels AND THEY ARE ALSO CALLED FILTERS (ever heard of Lee FILTERS)? I'm a photographer by profession, and I'm telling you DO NOT use the yellow plastic gels / filters / whatever you choose to call them! The filters that come with these lights are junk and not proper CTO.
