♥ Make sure to see the new wide screen version I made on my other channel; a link is below. Hurricane Katrina ~ Dedicated to my family, my hometown of Slidell, Louisiana and most of all to my Maw Maw. ~ Created by Leroux

This is a slide show of Slidell, which is situated on the northeast shore of Lake Pontchartrain, during and after the storm. This is my hometown and even though I am no longer living there, it will always hold my heart.

With a name meaning pure Hurricane Katrina smashed into the coast on August 28, 2005. It was anything but pure, causing billions in damage and becoming the most devastating catastrophe to hit America. At least 1,836 people lost their lives.

My Maw Maw is my special aunt; you might as well say my Mom. She stayed during the storm and is a heroic woman whom I love with all my heart.

  • Hurricane Katrina left a mess of the entire Gulf Coast, not just N'Awlins. I can't imagine being through anything like this - went through remnants of Camille in '69, was in Alicia in '83 (flying through it!!), and touched by Hurricane (Y)Ike's back edge last year. Close as I ever want to be. Undone by the devastation to your home town of Slidell - the city still bears scars, I hear, this many years later.

  • Yes I was in Gulfport the day after it hit to help my sister; her husband had just gotten out of the hospital after open heart surgery, it was hard going to get there. It changed many people's life for a long time to come. What I experienced there and in Slidell was unbelievable. I had also been through Camille and I thought that was bad until this.

  • I was back in Slidell a little over a year ago for three months to care for my Maw Maw after double knee replacement surgery. Everywhere you look there are scares. This was my way to let them know that I keep them all in my thoughts and if the need arises I will be back to help.

  • I can't imagine, like I said earlier. Katrina was so large, her back end was seen from North Central Texas. On my latest video (Happy Birthday - June 26), there is a picture of me with Katrina's back edge peeking over my shoulders. She was that big. We got some clouds and wind, that was it. Not as bad as y'all got it - are you back home, in Slidell? Or have you relocated elsewhere, as so many have? Your Maw-Maw - she's gone? Not from Katrina, I pray? Take care, God bless -
