We had a complaint from a customer about a trace burning up on one of the connectivity kits they had purchased from us. We inspected the returned product and suspected that it had been connected with the DVD power cable reversed. So we mocked it up with our test PCB and sure enough... See the video!

  • When properly connected it allows the 360 DVD drive to be powerered on by a computer, lets you eject the tray with the push of a button. Also for some drives it is helpful in bringing the drive up in a debug mode.

  • @iTheGeek

yeah well, i dunno why it was damaged ,

all i know is ,it was fine before the update.

and the update included a flash .

so i figured the flashing killed the lens.

so i better disconnect the laser ribbon next time, its only 2 minutes work./

  • @ImmortalUniverse Bro, I highly doubt Microsoft would burn the lens. It was probably some problem with the power adapter and the drive conflicting. I've flashed every single orginal xbox model drive including the crappy ass hitachis and I've never burned a single lens. Not to mention that the firmware on the drive is not active while being flashed so Microsoft can't tell the drive to self destruct lol.

  • besides its 4 screws and 1 ribbon .

so 1 minute work to disconnect the lens.

why would i take the change of destroying another lite on lens.

  • @iTheGeek maybe you were lucky . i flashed many too. maybe a couple of ten drives . the first lite on DG 16 d 2s i tried ,was fried during the may update . so i diodnt even flashed it . microsoft destroyed the lens with the system update / i replaced the lens with the lens of a benq . and the drive works great again. so obviously flashing can derstroy your lens . especially when microsoft does it , im gonna flash with the ribbon disconnected. no matter what anyone else says.
  • @ImmortalUniverse Lawl I've flashed many 360s for friends and today I flashed mine again with the release of Lt 1.9 and I never had any lens destroyed. And 100+ successful flashes tells me that there's no need to open up the drive and pull out the lens. The only time you need to open it is to use the Probe 3 on liteon drives.

  • 1.you should never plug and unplug with the power on.

    2. you can see how it supose to go in , by looking at the connector.

dont force it in ,it supose to go in easy or you have it wrong.

3.unplug the ribbon that is connected to the lens ,before you flash.

    flashing might destroy the lens.

dont pull it loose , you need to unlock the header first then take the ribbon out.

there a little piece of plastic you need to pull in order to release the ribbon.

  • u plug it in upside down

  • Lol I had that once, but not with a CK just with another chip at my friends house, it was fun because his carpet was on fire XD

  • yeah thanks i coulda used that
