Thermite is illegal to ignite but legal to make and own, it is just a mixture of Aluminium Powder and Iron Oxide. Thermite will melt anything, that is why it is illegal to ignite, but it really depends on what country or state you live in.

It depends which country you live in really. It's probably not legal but as long as you're discreet about it no one will know or care.
