  • Farewell to an American hero. However, I do have one slight quibble about Mr. Feller's account. Around the 7:30 mark, he talks of the US Army having to be pulled out of Saipan and replaced by the USMC. That didn't happen. The 4th Marine Division initially invaded Saipan, and the 27th Infantry Division followed. Both remained until the end of the battle.
