@crazyeyemother...I agree with your range estimation...2500 ft is nearly half a mile!
-
So your telling me your have a portable lap-top? I only have a lap-top. Wish I had a portable one...
WE ARN'T ALL DUMBASSES!
-
Question: If you wrap the wireless USB card in plastic (to protect it from the elements) will that effect performance?
-
@crazyeyemother looks like 250m, About 800 ft max.
-
I really doubt that house is 750m away...

buen video exelente simple pero si se moja el aparato la parabola

I didn't catch how you determened your focal length for the recieve/TX unit. It looks short. If you are not on the focus you will find 2 hot spots or really a circular hot spot and loose a lot of gain. I was a microwave techinition and was once given the reong feed horn ( wrong length not frequency) I could see the other end of path but had to point it to the right or left of the other dish to achieve path.

@dradragoss hi, you can't. Also google for weefi for more home made info, schematics and diagrams, those guys are pure genious

good job, but being able to see routers using parabolic dish does not mean you can answer them as well, as usb adapters are 3 times less transmit power and few other factors. Also being higher unfortunately for this size of waves can have negative results
Excellent video. Just a question. I have a friend that is about 1km away, and this idea looks like it might help alot. Now instead of the wok, we have access to 3 cband satalite dishes.. would this possibly work?? The wok idea looks like what we might go with but I'm wondering if we put the USB wireless adapter at the tip of the Cband would it work?
Any input would be great! Great job once again!

C Band dishes are GREAT for this sort of thing, probably the BEST parabolic reflector you can get. It would certainly make a formidable WiFi weapon! Keep in mind that the focal point @ 2.4GHz for the C Band dish may in fact be totally different than a typical C Band application. Please try it and let us know how you make out. Take pics or do a vid. Glad you enjoyed our video. It's been a while since a new episode was produced, but a series of new ones are in production right now.

I would recommend calling your local chinese takout joint or ask a reputable Asian chef where to get one. If you have a "China Town" near by, you can probably locate one there. Being married to an Asian woman, I came to know where all the Asian markets are. You can find Woks there.

I booted out of there leaving my D-link behind and a security guard running after me. It was worth it, I paid the guard 100 bucks but broke my D-LINK usb part right off so Im out on 150 bucks for that experiment. So as you guys can imagine I'm gonna plan a dish about that size and aim it at all the houses that are behind mine hehe!

HAHAHA!!! I LOVE this story! I nearly died reading it. I would recommend (as an easier approach) if you want that much gain, to use a 5 foot Ku band or 9 foot C band satellite TV parabolic reflector. It'll result in a CRAZY signal strength!!! but at that size you better have a good mount! I used the Chinese cooking Wok because they are smaller, but also very cheap and very common if the area you live in has a heavy Asian population - I LOVE ASIANS!!!! hahahaha!
