The question of how political should a church be comes up from time to time; every four years to be sure. Churches vary as to how political they are. Some are steeped in politics while others ignore the subject all together. Whether you are on the right or left politically, you can find a church that is all about your view. Although we respect the political process and encourage all to take part and vote for those who hold your same view, we do not see the church as the place to become political.
Jesus never got involved in the political process; nor, did He take sides in the politically charged environment of His day. He had a much greater call, a job to do, and could not be sidetracked by who was going to govern Judea next. His greater call was the salvation of mankind. He saw the greatest need that men have is not met in politics, but that their sin sick soul needs to be set free from the guilt of sin. When Jesus gave the great commission to the church, He did not send us out to change governments. He sent us out to change mens hearts and to make disciples of all nations by baptizing and teaching them.
In this teaching (un-edited version available at calvarytucson.com) we look at how the Christian is to view government and what his involvement should be from the encouragement we find in Romans 13.
I pray for president Obama all the time. I don't know how he's dealing with these people. God Bless President Obama
