This Lego Clock Escapment was created with Autodesk Inventor Professional 2008 Dynamic Simulation.
It is a video response to the gorgeous Lego Clock Escapements published by BenVanDeWaal:

  • what program is that i would really like to know

  • Autodesk Inventor Professional

  • I've seen it on Watchuonline. Apparently it can not work for longer than 5 or 6 pendulum periods, without help. I think you can do better by placing the pegs on the upper two arms, rather than on the lower two. This will give a better defined contact between these pegs and the pegs on the escapewheel. Maybe, this will also reduce the heavy recoil, as is apparent from the lifting of the weight ever tick, which spoils energy.

  • Yes, I had the same idea. The first dynamic simulation was calculated without friction, so it worked on and on and on ;-) Actually, I placed the pegs on the upper arms, increased the swinging mass to 470 gramms kidney-beans and reduced the pendulum lenght. Now it runs much longer without help.

I will post a video tomorrow.

  • What a nice simulation! I wonder whether this escapement would work in reality, however.

  • It works! :-D

  • I think if you changed the direction of the revolution to make it more reliable.
