Olin and Redford are masters of nonverbal communication in this sceene. Redford uses a card then quarter trick to make light of the painful moment, for her sake not his own. The way she looks at him when she sees that he gave up the diamond, and the way she clutches and ever so subtly sniffs his jacket shows she knows what he gave up.

One of the classic goodbyes of American film; though it doesn't get the praise, it's right up there with the goodbye in Casablanca. In the spirit of Prometheus, Redford's character in Havana is an example of the much to litle used leading man marter.
The film has always been one of my favorites. The haughting ciminatography and, soundtrack intensivises the tragic love story set in the Cuban Revolution.
