Fight Entrenched Power & Opportunist Politicians With Protest!
The unconstitutional 15 Minute Parking Lot Panic Law has been used to disperse the Drummers Circle, again, which has been a part of the downtown community for over 20 years. A place where Food Not Bombs and others feed. A place where musicians and others gather weekly in a peaceful manor. One of the few ever shrinking public spaces left for people to peacefully assemble in this city. We will not give up this right! Stand with us! Reports that the Raging Grannies and the Trash orchestra will be there again, as last year to reclaim our right to use public space. Last year many groups and people showed up in solidarity and stopped the police harassment. Know your rights, be kind, take a stand! This is a Right to public Assembly Issue. It is Free speech issue. • Well its been many weeks now and despite the obnoxious posters comments here the people took the parking lot back, cops and troll busters lost their little war. Free assembly, the right to use public space, feed people, won. The rest of you lost, so have a latte enema and get over it.

  • I just got word the Trash Orchestra will be there. As far as all concerned, as I understand it, no one group is responsible for this protest, rather a community coming together. So come one and come all. If you think that being allowed 15 minutes in a public parking lot breaches your constitutional rights, if you care about Food Not Bombs being able to feed, if you want to rest in your car while your wife shops, if you care about your right to assemble peacefully -- take a stand on wed.

  • I agree and thanks for the comment. As far as I know, the Raging Grannies and the Trash Orchestra and many others are planing on coming this Wednesday to make another stand like last year. The Draconian laws you speak of are ironically largely drawn up by Council Members who also teach... constitutional law.

When people get together and make something positive, like the Drum Circle which has been around for 20 years, it should be protected. I hope to see you on wed, thanks again!

  • Fuck you.

  • just recently came to santa cruz in my little rv like a week ago...maybe @1st glance...i may like look a "hippy"=bohemian threads, beaming smile w/out the dreads. but i am not big on labels. after reading some of the comments on here, i am seeing lots of -judgement- coming from people on here. i just want 2drum w/ some free spirited folks the way the ancients used to. It is totally ignorant and judgemental to generalize all people who like to play drums to be drug addicts, smelly or useless!

  • The Raging Grannies know what Life is about. I'm glad The Raging Grannies stood up for the participants of the drum circle. People of the drum circle are good decent people; they only look weird. They're not gathering to cause any trouble. The drum circle people are enjoying the rhythm that binds them.

People of The Drum Circle, play on !!

  • Drumming is not just for Hippies. Its for everyone. Drumming is a form of music and art that has been a part of every culture since who knows, maybe the beginning of time. I've worked almost all my life, over 40 years, and find drumming to be a spiritual experience. Times have changed people, free your minds. Stop the hate. Peace, Love, and Music - Medicine Road
