Fave VGM #793: "Strain ~ Assault" ~ Yoshitaka Hirota

Shadow Hearts: Covenant is one of my favorite RPGs on the PS2. It is the first game of the Shadow Hearts trilogy that I played and I immediately became a fan of its dark storyline dealing with demons and ghouls. This is the most unsettling music track from the game for me. It's the woman's cries that really get under my skin. It's almost as creepy as Kayako Saeki's breathing as an Onryō. It is the most unpleasant and unsettling sound that I've ever heard in a movie. Even now while wearing earphones, I can't hear her without my skin crawling or feeling that she's right behind me. And this song gives me the same sort of feeling with the aggressive melody and haunting cries.

@MistressZelda I really like the series. It takes place in a parallel dimension of our world where demons, ghouls, and magic exist. What sets Shadow Hearts apart from other RPGs is the dark story and the cool battle system which gives the player a more active role. Instead of choosing Attack and watching the characters attack, the player has to hit a Judgement Ring in various spots to pull off combos or cast a more effective spell. And there's a lot of humor. They're fun games.
