"Chopper One" presented the exploits of two helicopter policemen, Officer Don Burdick (Jim McMullan) and Officer Gil Foley (a young Dirk Benedict) of the Western California Police Department (W.C.P.D.). Together, they patrolled the skies from above in a Bell Jetranger helicopter and protected the city of Los Angeles, California from criminals. Originally titled "The Chopper Cops."

  • Why aren't this and 240 Robert out on DVD yet? I remember both shows from my youth, and they both have strong points for selling them now (Pre-star status Mark Harmon and Dirk Benedict). I'd buy them. They have Riptide out on DVD now for goodness sakes!

  • Thank you so much for posting this video! This was one of my fathers favorite shows, and even though he hated Star Wars and anything else scifi related, because of Dirk Benedict, it was demanded that our family had to watch the premire of "Battlestar Galacitca" in Sep. '78. Even thou the tv premire of the '76 King Kong was on. This is my first taste of Chopper One, and I wish I could get more!

  • I remember this how - amazing! I was gutted when it ended. Wish there were moreclips on Youtube!

  • This looks around the time when the LAPD just started receiving the Bell 206.

  • This clip soooo kicks ass!!!

  • I didn't catch on to BSG until about half way through the first season. My dad watched it. I love Sci fi but at that time it was what sparked my interest in sci fi. Besides, Dirk Benedict was hot! I didn't realize he had done a tv series before BSG. Then again, I would have been too young to watch. I was only about 6 when Chopper one came out.

  • Realism. LOL

  • yea ok....like a cop in full uniform is gonna jump in the water, and no life jacket to on top of it. Nowadays it would be more like: "Foley, call in a diver. I hope that kid can hold on."

  • I remember this too. It's from about 1975 but I'd totally forgotten that Dirk Benedict starred in it as well.

  • Wow, I had completely forgotten about this show. Thanks for the clip.

  • I remember playing with my VERTI BIRD and watching this show!! it has been years since I have seen anything from this show!! thank you for posting!!

  • as i went thro' "the A team years" did not know "the Face " was one of Chopper one...how did we live without the net!!
