The title is misleading! I expected to see Wes finally learning to ride dirt!

Women getting into the sport will only make it better. Weren't too many female racers back in my day (late 70's), But I was friends with a few. Most of us were like 'big brothers' to them, always there to lend a hand. Also, you won't find a better bunch of people as with off roaders. There are a few exceptions, but MOST off roaders are family oriented.

I hear ya. Plan is to do the MSF+ at least 10 hours or so on a 250 dirt bike before going to the dealership. Hell, I'd love to have my own dirt bike to learn to ride on a mx track & for the desert but I don't own a truck to transport it =/

Still an MSF course is only 2 days long... you don't get years of experience in 2 days. Lending a dirt bike is a good option or whatever you can get your hands on just to get into it.

I hear ya but I do plan on taking an MSF course before biking a street bike. I'm going to see if I can get anyone to lend me their 150 or 250 dirt bike to learn on this Summer :)

Start with the dirt bikes and leave street bikes for later is all i can say. Too many factors in riding a street bike that an inexperienced rider won't be able to perform and ride safely at the same time.

The kid is thinking ahead, "Yey I don't have to convince my mom to let me ride motorcycles!"

I have ridden an old 85cc dirt bike years ago and it wasn't too bad! I love bicycles so balance wasn't a huge issue but a motor on a bike was a bit intimidating at first :) I'll have to find someone with a 150-250 to get re-familiar.

age doesn't really matter. Just start out on a 250 (or 125/150) and work your way up until your comfortable, and then go to a bigger bike.

The learning curve isn't very hard.
