http://www.marchbiological.com - 1-800-328-9140 - "The Bugman" shows how to control spider mite infestation on Medicinal Marijuana Plants with Green Lacewing Eggs. - In 1991 Brad Ross left the big city of Los Angeles and moved his family to a small farm outside of Portland Oregon for quality of life reasons.

They had barely moved in when the collection of chickens and horses and pigs and cows started. On the advice of the previous homeowner Brad started releasing beneficial insects to control the fly problem. Truth be told it was not done for any environmental concerns but because it was easier, less time consuming and gave better results than using traps or sprays.

Soon the questions started, "What are you doing for fly control?"

When friends or parents of Brad's kids friends came over he would end up answering Fly Parasite questions.

Once, during a garage sale one gentleman asked why we had no flies with a pasture full of livestock. As Brad began to explain the virtues of Fly Parasites two other couples came over to listen to the explanation.

A light bulb went off in his head. There is a need for this!

After about year of research, study, trial and error March Biological Control started selling Fly Parasites, Mother Natures Fly Control.

At first sales were local, business grew by attending horse shows and farmers markets giving talks at schools and at garden clubs.

Soon another type of question started getting asked. "These Fly Parasites really work, but what do you have for fleas? or ants? or root weevil?"

Realizing there were more pests to kill out there than just flies, Brad studied harder than he ever did at school! Soon he added Beneficial Nematodes, Predatory Mites, Lacewing and Ladybugs.

For every pest a homeowner could be dealing with we had a Beneficial Insect or a non-toxic way to kill it. Brad saw his job was helping educate people that there is an alternative to chemicals.

The first few years were tough. After all, what's not funny about a grown man trying to support a family by selling bugs? But little by little the business grew.

It was fairly common to be talking with a potential customer at a horse expo or farmers market and have a stranger come up and say "I know it sounds funny, but I use them, and they work."

But, selling Beneficial Insects is just like any other business. March Biological has plenty of competitors out there.

Brad says, "For March Biological to be around for another 17 years I need to keep providing a product people want at a competitive price, give great service, take care of the few mistakes that happen as quickly as possible and most important of all -- keep listening to what my customers want!

  • Yes ladybugs are effective pest control. Some people prefer them to Green Lacewing.

Cut worm are easily controled with Beneficial Nematodes~

  • When the pests have all been killed off the Lacewing larvae will attack each other. The adult females do lay eggs. They feed on pollen, honeydew & nectur. We also provide the artifical food they are raised on and a food subistute

  • Yes, Green Lacewing females lay eggs. The adults feed on pollen, honeydew & nectur. We also have an artifical food that they are raised on available as well.

  • Small black spots could be any number of things. Put a white sheet of paper under where you see the spots and flick the plant, if little specks land on it and start moving around it is probably spider mite. Green Lacewing or Spider Mite Predators will control that. You may want to clip a leaf or two and take it to a local garden center to ID the problem.

  • Beneficial Nematodes & BTi are 2 ways to kill fruit flies, where is the fruit fly problem? There may be other ways to control them.

  • Are Ladybugs effective for pest control? Also, what would you recommend to get rid of cutworms?

  • @OxyFiend1982 i saw someone handle them by puttting a little cup of coffee just enuff to cover the bottom of the cup with sugar in it let it dry and put the cup at the base of your plant they will get stuck in it helps with other pest to (not even a cup sumthing small but can hold liquid such as the little plastic you put ketchup in from mcdonalds)

  • @OxyFiend1982 yellow sticky traps and stop over watering. other then that find a bug that can stand your indoor environment that kills flies

  • Great info cap you're absolutely right about the lace wings, theres quite a few other pests out there- do you know of a small(very) white larvae that lives in soil\coco substrates- neem oil made them disappear just wondering if you heard of any thing like this- you can really only see em with magnification. thanks.

  • What happens to the lacewing population when the mites or whatever has been dealt with? Are the lacewings cable of laying more eggs?

  • @OxyFiend1982 hang one of those sticky ribbons on ur cieling and they'll go to it like a magnet
