Alan Grayson on Occupy Wall Street

PJ O'Rourke: "Get this Man a Bongo Drum!" (Huh?)

On 'Real Time with Bill Maher,' Conservative author, PJ O'Rourke asks whether the members of of the Occupy Wall Street Movement, like him flunked economics. PJ O'Rourke flunks more than economics in this exchange with former Congressman Alan Grayson (D-FL), who replies:

"I understand what they're talking about...they're complaining about the fact that Wall Street wrecked the economy three years ago and nobody's held them responsible for that. Not a single person has been indicted. They're destroying 20% of our national net worth, accumulated over the course of two centuries.

"They're upset about the fact that Wall Street has iron control of the economic policies of this country and that one party is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Wall Street and other party caters to them, as well. That's the real truth of the matter, as you said, as well. And - "

PJ O'Rourke interjects, "Get the man a bongo drum! They've found their spokesman! Take your shoes off, go get a bongo drum, forget where to go to the bathroom -- and it's yours!"

Grayson maintains, "If I am the spokesman for the 24 million people in this country who can't find a full time job, that we should not have 50 million people in this country who cannot afford to see a doctor when they're sick, we shouldn't have 47 million people who need government help in order to feed themselves and we shouldn't have 15 million families who owe more on their mortgage than the value of their homes - OK, I'll be that spokesman."

Host, Bill Maher then noted the standing ovation in the show's studio.

The other panel members were Republicans.
