DO NOT Support The Arts!

Sometimes...a little artistic antithesis is necessary for extra perspective. We (The Layman Group, of course, wish everyone would support the arts.

This is good except it doesn't mention one very important (and in my opinion, key fact that speaks to lawmakers and, let's face it, any Republican) -- The Arts are a huge economic engine. A billion dollar industry in this country. In fact, nationally, the nonprofit arts and culture industry generates $166.2 billion in economic activity every year ($63.1B in spending by organizations and an additional $103.1B in event-related spending by their audiences). The Arts build a strong economy!

OK, people.  This needs to go viral. This needs to be sent to every. And YOU need to do it. Can you depend on someone else to send this to your state rep or your state senator or your federal elected officials? The House in DC plans to decimate the NEA this year. My state has been taken over by conservatives and plans to make our state arts funder close. We have a voice. These guys have given us the where withall. Now we need to make sure the right people see it.

Great video and sadly relevant in other countries too - here in the UK our government has made huge cuts to the arts and arts degrees, as well as anything deemed "unproductive" in terms of the economy. My degree course, Philosophy is one such "unproductive" course. Not like philosophy created all governmental structure, theological and ideological basis' throughout history, linguistic knowledge, passionate debate and the ability to look beyond the self. Pretty unproductive if you ask me. Da

The video is great. A little long, agreed, but very real. This country needs to get its priorities straight. We may not see the impacts immediately, but in the long run, the impacts will be devastating.
