At bonnarroo i saw Metallica and Mastodon in the same day(or maybe in same weekend, dont remember kind of a blurr! ) But who do you think left me with memories I'll never foget? Yeah and they opened with this song! To this day it puts goosebumps on my neck thinking about it! Long live the Mastodon! I hope to watch them grow old and and evolve as a band, and hopefull in a much more graceful way than Metallica has! :)

@jkjl234 Well in my opinion from the black album and on Metallica has entered a downward in their musicianship and abilities. I myself have lost lots of respect for Metallica because of not only their music but how they act out as people. I totally agree that in their hay day in the 80's and 90's they were a phenomenal band I find it insulting to compare the two because of the way that Metallica is viewed TODAY. That is why I feel it is an insult to compare a tight band as Mastadon to metallica

@MadSweeney616 1st of December 2006 in Nottingham, Mastodon supporting Tool. It was that live performance that really switched me onto mastodon. I had Leviathan copied from a friend but only really listened to Iron Tusk. After seeing them Support Tool I went out and got EVERYTHING i could. So incredible.

Brann Dailor is one of those rare drummers who is genuinely just as good, if not better, live. Which is crazy because the drumming on mastodon's records is out of control.

Mastodon is so original as well that you can't say the sound "like" anybody. i just notice a riff here and there, or a chord progression, that reminds me of Metallica. probably the most similar thing about the two bands is, in my opinion, at their peaks they were/are the best metal bands out there.

@jkjl234 Very well said. It is completely true. Metallica deserves our respect for what they alone have contributed to metal. They have influenced almost everything since the 80's and early 90's. However, Mastodon rarely sounds "like" Metallica. It's hard to sound like Metallica too. Both bands are about as original and unique as they come.

@jkjl234 never compare them to metallica u ignorant asshole means they play different music genres and YOU CANT COMPARE DIFFERENT GENRES.While the influence is there on behalf of the thrash part of mastodon nothing else connects mastodon to metallica.
