lol. My dad has a "pet" roadrunner on a job site he goes to often. It always comes up to his truck when he gets there. . .and if it catches anything it'll run up to him and "show it off" (I guess) and eat it. He said it won't let him touch it, but it'll stay right next to him while he's at the job. I've only got to see one once while I was visiting my family in texas. I had never seen one before, but I saw it hauling butt down the road and I knew exactly what it was. lol

Pedra always brings his food to me to "show off." I have read that the dance they do and the presenting of food is a mating ritual. Tell your dad that one. LOL If you see my other video's he always has something in his mouth when he dances for me. I'm glad you liked the video.

Hi, is the roadrunner your pet? We have a few in Las Vegas, I think it's their northern boundary. They sure are cute.

@PresidentJohn He had adopted us the last 6 spring/summers. He won't let us touch him so I wouldn't call him a pet, but he is very cool. He loves to dance for me. Check out some of his dancing videos.

Larger roadrunners will attack a full grown rattle snake and peck it to death!!!

As far as I know, Pedra has always pounded his snakes and lizards on the ground to kill them before he eats them. But I don't always see him kill his prey. That must have been one large roadrunner to take on a rattler.

@MsRandySue Indeed, size could help.
Then again, Roadrunners are amazing predators. Their intellect, agility, and speed give them a huge edge over their prey- I've not had the luxury of seeing it myself, yet, but I'll bet a good fifty dollars or so that most solo Roadrunners who hunt down rattlers simply trick the snake into a lunge that puts its vitals at the mercy of beak and claw.
Anyway, I must say, you're very lucky to be so close to such a magnificent being, so often. Thanks for sharing!

@ryarod He was amazing, and I really miss him. I suspect his life has come to an end. Roadrunners live 5-7 years. He started coming here in 2005 and was we think he was about 6 months old. That puts him near 7 years. We did not see him this summer and since we had the hottest summer on record, 71 days over 100 degrees, I suspect he did not survive. I was very honored to have been able to enjoy him up close for so many years.
Thanks for your comment!
