Most people don't know this but in Iraqi Kurdistan, the Kurds had an autonomous democracy thanks to the no fly zones over northern Iraq. They presented a model form of democracy for the Middle East. After 9/11, Saddam Hussein put 20,000 troops on the border of Iraqi Kurdistan. I supported Saddam Hussein's removal because it would be in our interests to expand this model democratic system into the rest of Iraq. It didn't work out as well as I had hoped.
