ALP is the party of do whatever is polling well no matter how stupid. They constantly change position because they are appealing only to swing voters (with equally swinging opinions) and throw everyone else under the bus. Including unions.

The coalition are the party of extremists who pretend to be fighting for middle Australia whilst implementing their unrestrained reganistic ideals that they've had wet dreams about since the 80s. Which is also stupid.

@Rafdaganga Maybe they did fail to form a real democracy, that's not what I was objecting to. What you're accusing the coalition of is naivety: believing they could contain a religiously-motivated bloodbath. But most of the actual killing was done by secterians. It's like when 4 roofing insulators died and Peter Garrett was being accused of "industrial murder", while the people who actually told them to work in a ceiling on a 30+ degree day weren't getting any attention at all. @UnoriginallyInclined which comes to my summary. Your assumptions are built uppon other assumtions. 24 years of ba'ath rule and there were no civil wars in Iraq. However 7 Years of Coalition forces 'Liberation' and the country is on a verge of civil war, has had a hung parliament for 8 months and is home to the people who make the largest diaspora in Human Kind history.

Saddam was evil, but he was the less of two evils.

Take my word, Iraq will have a coup and will return to Ba'ath rule.

@UnoriginallyInclined My Friend, Saddam in his 24 years of power did many evil things, however the death rate when saddam was in power is FAR LESS than post 2003.

one thing you must understand is 'liberating' a country like Iraq and forming a democracy is a failure in its self. forming a democracy in a religious driven country is essentially a contradiction especially and Islamic driven country.

Democracy does not happen over 10 20 30 years, people have fought for democracy for centuries

I never liked the Iraq war, but John Howard wasn't a mass murderer. Hessein spent decades turning Shi'a and Sunni Muslims against each other. They were the ones killing each other, not coalition troops. If anything, the soldiers helped contain it, at least a little. If Hussein's regime had collapsed on its own, and there was a civil war, the world would have sat there and watched, like in Sudan and Rwanda. People would have died anyway, but at least our hands would be clean, right?
