This is one of the most exuberant operas ever put on film, a gorgeous blend of music and Technicolor. The pure inventiveness on screen is exhilarating, from elaborate trompe l'oeil effects (in this scene - 2.30 - : a staircase emprinted on a carpet) to the extensive use of puppets. A gem.

Fascinating to watch Moira Shearer dancing as well as singing! Perhaps her voice was dubbed? I would think so because no ballerina could hit a High C and still do pirouettes. Intriguing film. I must explore the rest of these videos. Thanks for bringing this to devoted followers. ;- )
