Director John Hobbs' vision of turning an image of a penguin and a beauty queen into a short film was to dial up the oddity. Since he already found the picture dream-like, his objective was to have fun with it and leave enough room for the audience to fill in the blanks on their own. John Hobbs was an award-winning art director for many years before becoming a film and commercial director.

  • Great job John Hobbs! Amazing at what a good director can do with a simple penguin model! Great working with you!

  • the still in this video are less about animation and more about documentary and an isolated moment - great exploration of story and looking at the medium in new ways.

  • This video uses stills in a brilliant way. Really great use of a point-and-shoot HD camera for a short film.
