Using advertising to bypass people's critical faculties the same way fizzy brown sugar water can be sold as "fun" instead of the nasty stuff it is really opened the door to our modern superficial electoral process where most people would know a platform if it fell on them and it doesn't matter anyway because no politician would keep to one.
