I know how to make Zinc Sulphide. can you tell me how to dope the ZnS with copper? Where I live, commercial glow-in-the-dark powder is hideously expensive, and online purchase out of the question. Thanks.

you can try to doped the Zinc sulfide via trace amount addition of copper nitrate or chloride. I am still experimenting with it, so please feel free to explore.

Thanks for the reply.
I have heard that one needs to combine the ZnS with the dope at very high temperatures for it to work - do you have any ideas re the process? Do I heat the substances together in a crucible? Can it be done over a bunsen burner or do I need a furnace?

I am not quite sure about the industrial process, but simply mix it may provide sufficient activation. I don't know whether heating make any better.
