Baby Birds Attacked and Killed by Raccoon

Very sad and hard to watch. Nature at its worst. This bird house was on a 2"x2" 8 ft wood pole. 1" round bird house hole. My Mother would watch them on tv all day long. Baby chickadees are about18 days old, should have left nest at 16 days but didn't andthe result was this horrible ending by the raccoon. 2 died in the nest and I think 2 got away of the 6 baby birds that were hatched. Chickades usually lay 6 eggs. Mom flew out as soon as she heard noice at 12 midnight according to the time on tape. 6:30 am the mom and dad flew in the birdhouse, spent about 5 minutes looking at their dead babies. It was heartbreaking.

wish i hadn't watched that. but just out of curiosity, it looked like one chick was injured but survived. do you know if it died from its injuried or lived and got the heck out of there?

@mrmrs23 My mom thinks two baby birds survived but I think it was only one. This year she has a metal pipe around the wooden pole so the raccoons can't climb to get to the birdhouse.
