This is a video I took of the East-West line of MARTA, Atlanta's metro system. The first half-second, which I couldn't chop off with this computer, is of a campground south of Hot Springs, NC, with my dad's voice in it.

The train I took was one of the older ones (1979-83) which have since been rehabilitated beyond recognition. Notice the absence of a door chime; it's supposed to sound as a loud "PONG!" but doesn't work. Also, the doors creak a bit when they close. At the time of this recording, the trains on this line were typically older than those on the North-South line.

Right before King Memorial station I snagged a shaky shot of downtown Atlanta; the stretch of this line right before and after King Memorial gives a truly postcard-perfect view of the skyline, and on clear days, which this wasn't, you can see all the way to Buckhead and even Sandy Springs sometimes.

  • You see the best graffiti on this line

  • @Roxie21 There wasn't half as much of it when I took this video, though. Actually, a lot's changed in four years. New apartments have gone up, a few buildings have actually collapsed or been torn down, and obviously the Westin went through a few changes. . .

  • whew im not in it! :D

Spend a lot of time @ GWCC/Phillips- (blah blah blah) station??? 'Tourists're always tryina get there. ppl lost in the station are fun n easy to help^^

  • Some trivia: at last enumeration, the station had the longest name of any subway station in the world...

  • Kensington To 5 Points Is The Longest Trip Ever

  • Unless, of course, you get on at Indian Creek instead. :D

  • I like the paris metro and RER.

  • @Amazetbm Go to Dallas/Fort Worth and ride DART. MUCH cleaner and nicer (and faster) than MARTA or Metro. Covers a far greater population, has less crime on the system than DC or ATL, and actually turns a profit unlike Marta which is a massive loss.

  • DC metro:

    106.3 miles

    85 stations,

    5 lines

    MARTA:

    47.6 miles

    38 stations

    4 lines

Now you tell me, which one is better?

  • @leonardwilson85 Yeah, Metro is cleaner. But I was talking about in terms of efficiency and rail coverage. NYC is the only one that seems to come close and it still has its issues. After riding the S-bahn and U-bahn in Berlin, coming back and riding MARTA is like trying to put on shoes that you wore in middle school.

  • @Raiden100 The DC Metro has declined in quality over the years but it is still infinitely better than the joke known as the NYC subway (and I'm a New Yorker).

  • @Amazetbm The NYC subway, yes. The DC Metro, no. The DC Metro is the cleanest and most modern system there is.

  • @Raiden100 The mass transit in Europe makes all of your systems seem laughable.

  • XD sure does! People mostly don't know to go to that one or to Peachtree station. It's genreally one around there for all the stuff they wanna see. :3
