Excellent! The world needs a million more Szasz' out there!

Man, he nails it. "Psychiatry is not science. It's politics and economics. Psychiatrists are quacks." Thank you Dr. Szasz. How rare is it for an individual to say the truth when it goes against the grain of his colleagues? I take my hat off.

Tired of kids acting like retards and blaming it on ADD. They just have no self-discipline and that makes me really angry.

@Coldndedwithin Without psychiatrists encroaching on the freedoms of other people, billions of lives wouldn't have been destroyed, literally and metaphorically, since its de facto inception in the 17th century. Sorry, but I'm not so easily swayed by the psychiatric-absolutist tenets that enshrines this protracted genocide as morally legtimate on the grounds that psychiatry can do what it wants, as long as it saves some people. What kind of debased moral specimen of man are you?

Psychiatry is 'political filtering'.

@brolltitch Dr. Szasz is mainly concerned with the use of psychiatry to justify committing people whom have not committed crimes and as an excuse for people who have committed crimes. He is a strong advocate of individual choice in medical products. If you feel that a consultation with a psycho analysis, or psychiatrist is helpful or would be interested in using drugs to improve your mental state you have a right to do so.

Ha, ha: "Beer you can't advertise, but Zoloft you can advertise."
I'm not so sure anymore that it's the psychiatrization of society as much as the commercialization of psychiatry. Why bother w/ martial law when you can reduce your charges to drooling idiots w/ debilitating drugs? What's really sad is that a genuine libertarian like Szasz aligns himself w/ Scientology, 'cause libertarians aligned themseffs w/ neocons & the scheme to prevent mental illness by drugging every 5 yr old.

@Coldndedwithin Your drugs will be causing a lot of your problems. You must educate yourself and go for as many psychology or psychotherapy sessions as you can. If you can save up the money book into a humane hospital. You don't need drugs for these invented diseases trust me.

You're too fat its a disease. *laughs*
You have too little sex its a disease. *ROFLMAO*
...
On a serious note, he's right. Psychiatry has evolved into something partially redundant. Depression annoys me the most. Being sad is a disorder? Believing in that is a disease!

psychiatry is a complete scam
I don't know what to do....
I'm quite certain I have what would be 'medically' recognized as bipolar - it is exhausting and completely unpredictable.
I understand and believe what Dr. Szasz is saying. However I feel as though I have exhausted all avenues of 'self control'. I seriously don't know what to do. How do i control volatile symptoms (or should i say 'personality characteristics') that seem to have no causality?

@brolltitch Thanks for posting this. By no means do we (or Szasz) imply that people do not suffer from emotional/psychological difficulties. We have a link on our website cchrint called Alternatives, which lists a number of medical resources for people. Frequently undiagnosed medical conditions can manifest (or exacerbate) psychological problems. Check it out.
