The shown video corresponds to my former "paced breathing "-videos. It is important that these videos have a certain distraction effect and thus can reduce brooding. However, distraction is only helpful if somebody does not overexert himself/herself. Brooding is the basic condition for the forming and maintaining of depression. It is up to you to find the best way to follow the paced breathing. Please start to inhale with the higher pitched tone (3 seconds). When after exhaling (4 seconds) the video stands still, then you can have a breathing space (3 seconds).
Now here a technique is described for enhancing human performance and overcoming depressions. This technique would like to change the HOW of the therapy meeting, because the main problem of psychotherapeutic treatment is seen not in the contents of the therapy meeting, but in the technical fact that it occurs verbally.
A lot of psychotherapies do not work with heavy mental disorders; because the problem of the treatment is possibly the verbal guidance of the talks. In a normal doctor's patient's conversation the doctor looks at the patient with compassion and tries to give him/her recognition and understanding for example by saying: "I understand your worries and fears." or through nodding of head. But such a verbal and nonverbal communication of the doctor often harms, because here exists the danger that the depressive thoughts are reinforced. As the short term consequence the client has positive feelings of being understood, but as the long term consequence the depression persists and possibly gets worse. Mostly for reinforcement the time delay between stimulus and response must be very short. So the reinforcing connection must be broken through a greater time delay. All together more time goes by in a handwritten communication, because answering through writing and reading needs more time than verbally communication.
Furthermore clients can win in a handwritten communication the impression: "Here I am taken seriously, because writing is much more strenuous for the psychotherapist than express something verbally."
In addition 'The handwritten conversation in a face to face contact' has some more positive aspects. For example, it is not possible to forget some findings of the meetings, because these findings are every time available for the client.
Another positive aspect of handwriting is the fact that in emotionally high charged situations handwriting calms the mind down and can bring the thoughts to a more objective level.
Mostly some minutes goes by in a handwritten exchange of an idea. A more temporal expansion has to be rejected, because, otherwise, too high expectations could occur by the clients. On the Internet spiritual welfare is offered by electronic post. This is something else than the handwritten conversation by face to face, because the presence of other people has strong effects on motivation and behaviour (Fridlund, Kenworthy & Jaffey, 1992).
In addition more sincerity and meaning is attached to the handwritten, because in E-mail is more lied and cheated in comparison to a handwritten letter (Naquin, Kurtzberg & Belkin, 2008).
If you have no partner for communication, please write graphically down a depressive thought and then imagine what would you say to another human being in a calmly and caring manner. Please write this graphically down. Then go to the next depressive thought and so on. It is important that you never overexert yourself by trying to find the best answers. Go slowly and then the solutions come by the time.
So please note: Actionism should be rejected in diverse depression modes. The Spanish philosopher Balthasar Gracian pointed out in the book "The Art of Worldly Wisdom":
"But if you have bad luck, keep retired so as not to redouble the influence of your unlucky star."
