I don't like it when people use 'Emo' and 'Depressed' interchangeably. My best friend makes fun of me for listening to Bright Eyes and refers to it as emo music. Maybe my definition's off, but I think of emo as a sort of commercialized angst, or at least a fashion movement. Just because the man writes sad lyric doesn't mean he's emo.

I always cringe when I hear them say Conor is an "Emo Icon."

And Emo isn't goth.

But if you've seen the documentary Spend an Evening With Saddle Creek, Conor says Desaparecidos is just one of those things he wants to do to keep things fresh. He's always trying to do something new and to keep being creative.

I love the folkier Mystic Valley Band. It seems like he feels really comfortable doing that, so all the power in the world to him.

actually the term "indie rock" originated as a way of referring to bands that were successful in the underground without the aid of a major record label, hence "independent". the way it is used as a genre nowadays is another result of mtv and corporate america turning it into a buzz word, just like they did punk rock, emo, and everything other genre you probably know nothing about. quit while you're ahead you twat.

yes they are independent
but, as i said, that has nothing to do with the sound which is how we use the term now.
my point is valid.
indie is used to describe sound nowadays.
not the source of success
so why don't you quit while you're ahead you self-righteous dick. :)
i know what i'm talking about, you just don't agree with me because i don't listen to crappy music.

if you actually read my reply it doesn't matter that the term indie rock is used to describe sound, because it shouldn't be you fucking idiot. it was turned into a buzz word just like emo was. no matter how much you say you know what you're talking about, you don't. emo has nothing to do with cutting your wrists and any of that goth kid shit. that's an image perpetuated by ignorant morons. you wanna hear real emo, check out rites of spring, mineral, embrace, and christie front drive. peace idiot

haha that makes no sense at all!
and for someone who doesn't like buzz word stereotypes it's really ironic that you would call cutting goth.
later douche bag.
