Two simple akkadian signs, the ba and the aš are combined to create the meaning, "to be ashamed" in Akkadian (the next iteration of Sumerian). Try writing it yourself. A metallic pen is used on black paper for better visibility.

  • Thanks very much for your comment zweerver. I, however, cannot say that I agree with you that I write well. I had to practice a full page before filming. In fact filming is my excuse for learning it. And I learn along the way while I'm filming. I hope you film some of your practices--they would surely be better than mine. I am not a student of akkadian and sumerian but merely a hobbyist. I am no longer with FAS so all of this is just for fun.

  • Hi. Thanks for your question. Akkadian cuneiform is not the same as Sumerian. Sumerian came before Akkadian. Supposedly one is syllabic and the other is more logographic, if that makes any sense? Of course, you experts out there, please feel free to correct me.

  • Nice vid, but I was straining a bit to hear. I think the volume's a bit low?

  • @bluenail90 Hi! You are so right. This was one of my first videos I made about writing in Akkadian. I use a Flip for convenience--pretty low end. Sorry! :) Hope it's still useful.

  • Thanks Makibaal! That's very interesting about the proximity of the languages. I've always wondered about the arabic language. I'll have to look at your channel. I know Akkadian has many modern predecessors. Thanks for your comment.

  • @GiskAkina

Hey, just wondering where you learned Akkadian cuneiform.

Did you take an arts course at university majoring in ancient semitic languages or something?
