Here is a Vintage Garrard Turntable, Model 990B with an Ortofon OM-PRO-S Cartridge/Stylus that I picked up at Deseret Industries Thrift Store for $10.00. It works, but needs a new belt and needs new grease. It did not include the changer spindle, only the shorter one. I do not know what the apparatus is for towards the back, next to the tone arm (where the record holder arm usually is). I assume that you lift the spring loaded tab up and place it on the top of the record stack to keep the records level. Any information is welcomed. Thanks for watching-

  • Beautiful Garrard. When I moved out (late 70s) I was buying components and always had one Garrard or another... they made so many great models. But I was partial to changers, I love to stack records. After making sure they're clean of course!!

  • @75capriceconvertible Thanks! I found this one at a thrift store, and although I got it going, none of the automatic features would work properly, due to the loose drive belt. I ended up keeping the cart for my other turntable and selling it to a neighbor, I have WAY too many record players....!

  • Well this is a nice record player. I bet you could try with a number of different cartridge upgrades. Try a Goldring 1042 GX they are great. Also I spy an iMac in the background! :P

  • Thanks for your comments~ this Garrard is currently in pieces on my workbench, I am trying to get it going again, it has some problems (bent mechanism pieces). I will definitely make some new videos when (if!) I get it going again. I can try to do the digital transfer, also. I currently have the Ortofon cartridge installed on my Stanton turntable.

  • What speakers U using?

  • They were some water damaged Logitech computer speakers from my work. I have since upgraded~ Thanks for watching.

  • Nice Turntable...

  • @xmvirus202 Years ago, I threw out a BIC 940 because of that problem. Too bad, I kind of liked the thing. It got to the point where it couldn't even play manually; changing the belt didn't help; must have been the platter bearing. Later, I rescued a belt drive Garrard by putting a little pancake syrup on the belt; should have tried that on the 940!

  • Notice the setting for 10" 33s at 0:39! My older Garrards can only change 7" and 12" 33s. I think the 10" 33s started to make a comeback for EPs in the late 70s.

  • @xmvirus202 Tell me about it, I've cut down myself. Haha. I'm down to the juke, my Dumont console stereo and I've also got a 1970 Electrohome console w/Garrard changer, it's pretty decent and cabinet like new. Also tucked away is the 1957 General Electric combo AM radio and hi fi with three speakers and variable reluctance cartridge, it rocks for 78s!

  • PS can you do a digital transfer of the deck playing?
