Politicians do not make good historians

For many years the west was downplaying the role of the Soviet Union in WWII and was completely overlooked in western historiography, says John Laughland from the Institute for Democracy and Cooperation in Paris.

When you look at the history of the Second World War, the fighting in the east was of such an enormous magnitude that the fighting in the west, like the Normandy landing, pales into insignificance, they are almost non-events in comparison, Laughland said.

One can, of course, compare Soviet communism and German Nazism, but theres one big difference that emerges. Hitler came to power explicitly on the basis of war and racial prosecution. Soviet communism never had a racist element in the way Nazi Germany did.

Great report. I was just so surprised by this OSCE desicion, seems they are agonizing seeing Russia is strengthening again. It's the fact that they are anti-Slavic nazis and racists themselves, praising Bush and forgetting own relations with Hitler. (Bush's grandfather Prescott had some business with the nazi-germs, too).

Unlike the SU the western nations did not participate in the sacking of European nations.There is a huge difference between the Soviet aggression and the mistakes made by  the Allies.

Poland did not invade Czechoslovakia. When Hitler invaded Czechoslovakia Poland took back the small area of Teschen Czechoslovakia grabbed from Poland when Poland was at war with Bolshevik Russia.

Pointman. My point is that it's all in the past and there is no point in digging up who did what. No country has an angelic history, as this video clearly shows. Today Obama equated Slavery to Holocaust, for instance. Should we now bully the countries envolved in slavery business and segregation? How about colonial wars? What did invasion of Finland have to do with Russia's sequrity interests? Since when did the notion of legitimate sequrity interests include the occupation of peaceful neibouring countries?

That's the way Russian government defines its "sequrity interests", which is really a cover-up for its imperialist ambitions.

As this video clearly states, Poland did fight on Hitler's side, and even has grabbed part of Czeckoslovakia to itself. As for the western democracies - they refused to sign the security agreement proposed by Stalin, after which Russia had no other choice than thinking of its' own security, just like they did (Munich agreement). Anyway, what's the point of making stupid declarations 70 years later? No one was blameless.

And Poland was not the only victim of Soviet imperialism. Russians also invaded Finland and Baltic states - all in agreement with Nazi Germany.
