aside from the vastly superior soap that tallow yeilds, why waste the animal? they are going to be slaughtered no matter what er do, millions rely on the food source, so why waste the fat too? waste not want not!!!

I like your shampoos recipe though.

I agree with you about your choice and reasoning but there is also an ALL Vegetable Glycerine version.

omg that is too crazy! you do what you want! I think its cool you broke it down but dont let folks boil your spirit!
-
props for mentioning nancy today! i agree with you and her and all those who wish to live harmoniously on this planet of ours! mankind is omnivorous.

I just wonder if you re-use bacon fat are you considered an animal butcher too? Or if you make soup with ham in it and reheat it the next day (to eat) would you get all of the negative comments? It's basically the same thing. The animal was already dead & its meat taken, all you did was use the leftovers, I don't get why some people want to crucify you for that. I love animals but I also understand the need for food. Why let the rest go to waste ? Waste seems to be the bigger travesty here

I wld rather see someone use "all" of the animal rather than throw the rest of it away! I think it's sad you had to explain your choice to use tallow to those that do not agree. Even if they are strictly vegan& do not eat any "animal" products. I can assure you that there are items in their homes that contain animal derived ingredients. It's ridiculous to abuse you over your choice & also hypocritical. You dont abuse animals. You make something great from what most of us waste, no shame in that!

I have not made soap in some time, but recently saw food-grade lye was available, but old-timers did not have access to this, and if you are stirring your soap correctly and long enough I don't know that it would be a preference. There are always those who talk about getting a bad batch, so I can see the industry responding to this. Myself, I am more tuned to the buy-itis that the manufacturers would have us follow, and I avoid unnecessary expenses as much as possible.

LOL, I love your background music, Saturday Night Fever soundtrack? ;.) In my original post, I wrote I had just received my digital scales yesterday, and will be making some soap as soon as I build two soap racks, one for my neighbor and one for me. I will be rendering my fat in the yard over a fire, as the first time I did it, I found the smell unpleasant in the house. May I ask, do you use food-grade lye, or is it different than drain-cleaning lye?Negative commenters, stay away from this one.

I put a comment up, but don't know if it was posted, sorry. Anyways, I am about to render a batch of animal fat from a butcher who I know is certified. I made a batch years ago from some fat I had rendered, and it is the sweetest-smelling soap. I have even used it to wash my clothes in when I had run out of commercial laundry detergent; it was honey-oatmeal, but the oatmeal was ground very, very fine, and the honey weeped out of it for about a month every time I used it, as it was drying.

I just want to say that it is a shame how many people think they have the right to get into everyone's business and tell them what is right and what is wrong according to what they think. If some of you are so worried about someone who makes soap from lard, look in your own back yard and see what you can clean up..apparently you have too much time on your hands..You know what...like this lady said that did this video if you don't like it by all means don't watch it..give everyone a break.
i make soap at my job.. its really quite clean. if u want to use a soap that does not just tallow/animal fat. use like dove that using a synthetic soap base.. o and also dial..this is just what i know for a fact as for i make these..

@Verge513 Then I think you may need to go back and ask the company owners what "sodium tallowate" is lol That my friend is tallow along with sodium cocoate which is coconut oil and sodium palmitate which is palm oil, all of these are in the two soaps you say you make. Dove is milled and processed differently than how I make my soap, but it IS started the same way as I start my soap. There is a video here on Youtube that shows the commercial soap proccess ;o) Oh I have watched it lol

I am an adult and this comment is not aggressive
Please don't tell me what to do. I feel that your logic describes a double standard: You can do as you wish but I cannot? This is an open forum for all Internet users. I am disgusted by your use of animal fat and the bottle of Suave on your table (which I hope you're just reusing - recycling is marvelous indeed) which both dry out human skin over time. You are not ignorant and are prepared to accept the consequences. So am I. Thumbs down?

First of all I did not tell ANYONE in this video to stop doing what they are doing. second of all I did say in this video " to each his own" And i still stand by if you don't like what I am saying in the video then DON'T WATCH IT!!! PERIOD. You are disgusted, well my skin is very well moisturized. You don't like my bottle of Suave, well TOUGH you didn't buy it. :o) And I do recycle. BTW whats in your non animal fat soap??

If an item has tallow as an ingredient, and you want cow and not cat, you might want to verify with the company what type of tallow it is as much of it comes from rendered road kill and Humane Society left overs.

I know I am late seeing this but I wanted to let you know MY tallow comes from a registered and certified butcher. He cuts the animals himself, and certifies that they are corn and grain fed cows. I do not get my tallow from any companies.
