Dr. Chomsky is one of the greatest American intellectuals in my opinion. One of the most influential in any case.

of all places, take your bickering elsewhere. This is a calm, informed and concerned call to the responsible human being.

Despite our differences, I'm in no doubt more unity will be needed in the world when millions (or billions I'm not sure?) of people are displaced, as millions are already.

Global human survival and ecological preservation can be accomplished through the application of science and technology directly to our social systems. A global "resource based economy" would effectively ensure our survival as a species for generations to come. If not for yourself, lets do it for Chomsky's grandchildren ! lol

It seems to me that one of the reasons John vonNeumann was interested in game theory was to try find figure a way out of the nuclear stalemate between US and USSR which didn't result in total annihilation i.e., that mutual survival would be preferable to mutual destruction. Unfortunately, that mentality didn't seem to get propagated down to our age and myopic thinking now seems to dominate once again. Why don't we think like vonNeumann today?

@cannnedgoods The only way to sustain so many people (and still have a good standard of living - OECD member ) is through a permanent state of war and exploitation against other countries.

@WarmongerWW3 There are always very severe threats to survival of any species except perhaps those in the microscopic world of bacteria and viruses. There are also always threats to Chomsky's sanity, mostly in the form of his thoughts. Chomsky is correct that the U.S. dominates the world, thankfully, in military expenditure. Better us than anyone else.

@towneslives Chomsky strikes me as mentally ill as are most liberals. He is a lot like Shockley in that he is mentally ill despite being so intelligent.
