An updated version of an earlier posting of . . . A project I have been working on for some time now. This is my first attempt at anything significant using Google SketchUp Pro. "eXTREME Beach Home", is an engineer challenging ''ellipsoidal" design with a huge potential for addressing the need for better built coastal or "Beach" homes. The design is heavily influenced by the need to be structurally strong, high wind resistant, energy efficient, and have an elevated living area. The structural and dynamically engineered steel truss system that shapes the exterior of the building can be used to design a variety of shapes for both commercial and residential use. While this is still a concept home, comments are welcome. Feel free to contact me as well with questions regarding the design.
All the designing and drawing was accomplished using Google SketchUp Pro. The resulting 3D model (20.5 MB File) was used to export illustrations to Google Layout and Apple QuickTime Pro. Final editing was accomplished with Apple iMovie HD.
how much and how long?

@niamh2739 I am not certain what it is that you are asking but if it refers to the cost and construction time, I would state: This model is drawn to scale and is ready for further development for construction. I have not turned any of the drawings over to any construction firm(s) for evaluation as to the actual construction cost or construction time. I would welcome the opportunity to further develop this project if and when the interest warrants it.

That is quite spectacular. I assume you are a professional?

Thank you for the compliment. In response to your question, no I am not a professional. At least in the area of using Sketch Up Pro, Layout, or even home design. However, I have had a structural engineer view my concept and he says the design and structure are perfectly viable.

Ah I see. How long did it take you to make the model?

How long did it take to make the model? Considering the fact that I basically had to teach myself Sketch Up Pro as I went along and I would occasionally set the project aside during periods of frustration, let us just say that I have far more hours into the final model then I would ever be willing to admit.

Most of my frustration arose from the sheer size of the file. Since I live aboard a boat, my computer access was restricted to a G4 laptop. I finally realized that I had to segment the model into different parts for the actual drawing process and bring them all together only for viewing and illustration. The final model works well for viewing but not for additional drawing/development because of the size of the file. Not certain if this is a limitation of the actual software or my computer.
