I need help on the second riff! I can't get proper speed but I'm wondering if it's ok for the notes on the 4th string to mute when I play with pm the open A or I have to try and not mute the 4th string

Man i have the greatest problem with the riff starting at 2:55. How are you supposed to pick it? You do the muted A's with an upstroke and then the notes on de D string with a downstroke, but then i just can't get the proper speed and rhythm at all. Or do you go pure alternate: Downstroke on the open A, skip all over the D string and then upstroke it, then downstroke the open A again. Sweep picking seems an options, but then i can't seem to get the palmmutes right and it's also really hard.

@CoDGunner1 actually kill em all, justice, and the black album are on the nose of 440. Lightning is 445 and puppetz is just a couple cents short of 440. I believe they fucked with the speed in the mastering process. Happens sometimes.

He's defenitely alternate picking. It's impossible to play this by down picking only. Same goes for songs like Battery or Dyers Eve, so for all of the people out their who somehow don't know this already, DON'T even try to downstroke only. Some of their fast songs are primarily downstroked, like Master of Puppets. But usually the songs that require really fast chugging on the open E are alternatively picked, not downstroked.
