A project I undertook. It was really touch and go at one point. The spray paint was rubbish and the Fox Transfers (although they are superb!) really were beyond my skill range to apply accurately but I managed...

  • I'm going to be doing more or less the same thing to the same loco soon (when it comes from eBay!), but I'll be doing it in black. I've also figured out that given a motor and a drive gear, it should be a pinch (more or less) to modify it to loco drive. Any tips on painting and lining?

P.S. Well done, she looks splendid.

  • @microblah Hi. Thanks for the nice comment. I think you might have problems converting it to loco drive because the loco chassis is a dirt great lump of cast metal! Please tell me how you get on.

I used a transfer lining set (I can't remember who I got it from tho, sorry) and was easy to do if you take your time. The paint was a semi matt Humbrol. If you are doing yours in black, try Revell semi matt 'Anthracite'. It's not totally black and looks good on OO scale.

  • @Tomlan2007 I hadn't realised the models were made of metal. Is yours a late Dublo? I haven't recieved mine but I know it was made at some point in the seventies.

  • @microblah The body is made of plastic but the *chassis* is made of metal. I guess it was made heavy so that the wheels would go round. Yours should be the same. I hope it arrives soon.

  • Whats the song? Its really catchy and I cant get it out of my head.

  • It's a Bonzo Dog Band song called 'I'm going to bring a watermelon to my girl tonight' off their 'Dog Ends' album. It's a brilliant tune (and yes, it does stick inside your head doesn't it?)

  • @Tomlan2007 Oh, right. The Chassis of all the old Hornby/Tri-ang locomotives were made of metal, but from what I can see, they used a standardised chassis for most of the locos, so there is actually a space for an X.04 motor in the chassis of the loco, despite the fact that they never put a motor in.

  • very nice work!!!

  • Bravo an absolutly fantastic re paint. The music is great as well.

  • Thanks C, I'll do her in BR green then.
