Diving with a 12 foot Hammerhead Shark

I took this video clip at the Cocos Islands, 300 miles off of the coast of Costa Rica in Sept. 2006. The big guy just got closer and closer. I do not have a fear of sharks but this fella made me a bit nervous! Enjoy, it was a thrill.

fantastic,,,lol i could imagine your heart rate did beat alot faster when he shook his head,i agree shark was saying get the f outta here lol

You know what is interesting is until I viewed the video later, I didn't realize that it picked up the sound. My bubbles don't seem like they changed much but yes....my heart rate did change to a faster beat.

I hope to some day go back to Cocos. It is just such a pain to get out there. It was 30 hours from Punterenas over to the islands. Once there though the diving is fantastic. cheers!

I believe this is a great hammerhead, these are ocean goers whereas the scalloped hammerhead tend to school. This shark is considered dangerous to humans and this one did not like the look of you!

That was part of the thrill.....although I admit, I was glad to see him turn away. Then, when he shook his head it was almost like saying "no, I don't want you around here!" ;-)

Being so close to this hammy is definitely a highlight of every dive...magic!!

Yeah man looks real cool - glad you enjoyed it, I dived with lots a sharks and met about 100 hammerheads in the red sea, were real nice - but never seen a big boy like this one
