It is a purely ethnic identity,they aren't really part of the Islamic world and the Persian religion has been non-existent. So it is neither cultural or religious,just a country based on blood ties....often to the powerful but mostly to the powerless.

i m glad perisa didn't become a global power in the 21th century.. the mind set of Iranian people common or eliteis that are they are "aryan" people and origin. a term that doesnt indicate genetic superiority but they true believe they are superior to all people in asia. would you a want a country that has a mentality of that in power??? plus i believe aryans are ancestral people of india??.

I think if they had ironed out and reformed the prison system, and introduced serious reforms to close the gap between rich and poor (a struggle in ALL our countries) combining democracy with moral values and institutions it could have been the global superpower.

iran went from one extreme to another- shameless decadence to oppressive theocracy. tragic.
