With the recent high gas prices, and accompanying theft by drilling out of tanks, here is something I figured I would test out first hand.

I was wondering if the infamous "Mighty Putty" would fix a hole in a drilled out gas tank of your vehicle. Not wanting to try it on my truck's gas tank.. :) I tested it out on a water bottle filled with gas.

I wanted to make sure that the gas would not break down the putty.. and to make sure it would hold tight enough.

So if you are unlucky enough to get hit by this new kind of gas theft, here is a neat way to get yourself fixed well enough to take it into the shop.

Be advised that not all thieves are puncturing the tanks; others are cutting into the fuel filler tube. On some cars, the plastic tubes, which carry gasoline into the tank, run on the underside of the vehicle.

  • @dw33b would that work for this a severely rusted carb bowl with holes i can handle the rust but not the holes its old snapper and its 59 $ for a new one i send you the vid

No, do not use putty to patch a hole in a fuel line. Fuel inside of a line is under extreme pressure. The putty may be OK to patch a small hole in a tank.

  • I'd use aircraft fuel tank sealant, commonly called "B-1/2", pronounced "Bee half".

Wonderful stuff, available from aircraft suppliers like Aircraft Spruce. It and relatives are what seal fuel systems and are used as "faying sealant" on the majority of civil and military aircraft. Gas, alcohol, and diesel bother it not at all.

  • @stinkipete lol

  • u have to mix it a little more nextime i still see some of the green

  • Mighty putty is good but it wont work on anything that viberates or moves lol. I tried it on my dirtbikes gas tank. and it shaked around some much it lossened up. But what ever works cause i dont have 250 buck to throw around.
