The verbatim script follows below...

GETTING A HAIRCUT IS ONE OF THE THINGS TO DO BEFORE HEADING BACK TO SCHOOL THIS YEAR. AND AFTER TODAY IT'S ONE LESS THING THESE KIDS WILL NEED TO DO.

"well I have to get my school supplies and some new clothes and stuff, yeah." AUBRIONE ADAMS IS ONE OF HUNDREDS OF SCHOOL-AGE KIDS AT CLARY SAGE BEAUTY COLLEGE GETTING A FREE HAIRCUT. THE TWO DAY EVENT ALLOWS HAIR STYLING STUDENTS TO DO MORE THAN JUST PRACTICE ON MANNEQUIN HEADS. BUT MORE IMPORTANTLY IT PROVIDES A COMMUNITY SERVICE.

"well especially in this economy we've had people that come in and have 5 children if they're going to a salon and paying $20 a piece just to get a haircut we can really help them out so they can get school supplies and school clothes for their children instead of having to pay for their haircuts."

"LAST YEAR THEY SAW ABOUT 250 KIDS COME THROUGH HERE THIS YEAR THEY EXPECT DOUBLE THAT AND a lot OF PEOPLE ATTRIBUTE THAT TO THE ECONOMY."

"we really try to cut corners where we can and we've been preparing for this all year really just getting things as we need them here and there." CARRI SCHOCKLY BROUGHT HER PRE-SCHOOL DAUGHTER EMMA FOR A TRIM. SHE HEARD ABOUT THE FREE HAIRCUTS THROUGH HER CHURCH GROUP IN COWETA. SHE'S DEFINITELY DOING THINGS A LITTLE DIFFERENT THAN BEFORE WE WERE IN A RECESSION.

"before I probably wouldn't have waited til this weekend to get all of her school supplies because this weekend is the tax free weekend I would have just purchased them and not thought a thing about it but it's not that much of a discount but to me every penny counts." AND THAT PENNY PINCHING IS ONE OF THE REASONS WHY BETH HALE IS HERE WITH HER TWO BOYS.

"i'm a server and being a server making only $2.13 an hour you rely on everyone to tip you hopefully. A lot of people are saving money and tipping a lot less so I'm having to pick up extra shifts to make up for the lack of gratuity that people give." IN TULSA, ANGELA ROSECRANS, THE OKLAHOMA NEWS REPORT.
