Understand impermanence, suffering and the lack of self (anatta) in the temporal world is not going to produce nibbana/nirvana. This is only a realization of samsara which is composed existence. Nibbana is positive but uncomposed. It is also transcendent and immortal (amata). Again, simply understanding that phenomena are empty or barren is not going to win Nibbana.
In the Theravada tradition, there isn't really major divide between the bodhisattva path and the Arahat path. Just practice as best you can and maybe you will be a Buddha in a future life, or maybe you will be an Arahat, but the path is basically the same.
Best, most simple and easy to understand video on Buddhist philosophy I have ever seen. Excellent! This video has been the pinnacle of a recent period of deepening understanding of dharma for me, so many thanks!
In response to Chih-tao's question: "if all things are impermanent, who is it that is the enjoyer of the supreme bliss of Nirvana?"
Hui-neng replied:
The supreme mahaparinirvana
Is perfect, permanent, calm, and illuminating
Ignorant people miscall it death,
While heretics hold that it is annihilation.
