Love Frank & Dean! I respect the talent of Judy Garland (& her daughter Liza Menelli) but their style of singing is too over the top for me! Give me Ella, Nancy Wilson, Sarah Vaughn, etc. any day! :)

@ClarkKent2024 You got that right! You worded it perfectly and they were in awe of this great singer that these top singers of the day actually willingly took the back seat. Judy had more charisma when it comes to live performances and the camera caught her face and you just could never help just watching her while she was in front of the camera and not see any other star. Since childhood Judy has always captivated me and My favorite look of Judy is from 1963-64..

@iknowrebekah Jackie Susann's husband Irving Mansfield was a TV producer in the 50s and early 60s and was privy to a lot of information, which he passed on to Jackie, who, herself tried her hand at a showbiz career. So she knew a lot about Judy, and the Neely character in "Valley" was pure Judy, despite a few cosmetic changes.

I think it was around 1960 or 1961, because Judy was still plump from an incident in 1958 or 59 when she went into a coma from liver failure. They had to drain about 20 pounds of fluid from her and she was still plump like this when she left the hospital. This was probably her first TV appearance after that. They had a lot of fun doing this and it shows.
