A military helicopter hit the very top of the WFXL tower, rendering it not repairable. A demolition crew was to bring it down, but since it was so close to the WALB tower, experts thought that the chance of both towers falling was high. They were right. One of the guy wires entangled itself with the otherwise perfect WALB tower, snatching it down as well. Oops!
The pieces I zoom in on the ground near the top of the tower are part of the military helicopter's blades.

  • Why can't they simply disassemble it the same way they assembled it?

  • @TheMrBlinx That involves a heavy crane-like object called a Gin-Pole at the top, right where the helicopter hit. Probably just enough weight to make it crumble. Plus, this was more fun to watch.

  • @ThrillersEscape There were no animals harmed in this situation. Only Humans.

  • I was there. It was a hard task to accomplish.

  • were you involved in the demolition? I would love to chat with someone who was..

  • .the tower did not fall, it did have damage from flying debris, the guy wire that was struck was severely cut but held together.. took four months to replace and repair the damage to the tower.

  • NOT ALL lights on the tower were working and there was a NOTAM on file about it.. Regardless of the lights working or not, the tower was completely shrouded in heavy fog and it was determined that the pilot was found at fault form flying lower than the flight plan and was approximately 30 miles off course..

  • The pilots were in the process of changing there flight plan from VFR to IFR and also asking for radar flight following while they transited the area of all the 2000 ft towers... They were flying at 1400-1600 ft AGL.. They did not strike the tower, they struck the towers 6th level guy wire approximately 200-250 feet from the tower..

  • I would like to clarify the information regarding this accident being that this was two miles from my office. out the back windows I could see all three near 2000 ft. towers.

The Blackhawk took off from Ft. Hood, TX in-route to Texarkana, TX and flying under VFR conditions. About half way between the airfield and the accident site the conditions became IFR with the heavy fog from the ground to nearly 2500 ft AGL...

  • I've witnessed a couple of towers that were demolished by tornadoes...one was at the last station I worked for...noticed it was off the air...nothing unusual there...when I went in the "boss" said the engineer was on the way...I told him it wouldn't do any good. He started to cuss me out when I told him to walk outside...he did....I asked him to look in the direction of the tower...where it wasn't...Learned several new words that day!!

  • DEM TAKSPAIERS PAY FER ALLADAT.

Fuck yeah I paid a couple of cents to watch an awesome demolition. Best 0.25 cents I've ever spent.

  • Dang! They could've demolished the first tower the way the second one came down. Does anyone else see the irony in this video?

  • someone tell that redneck bitch to shut the fuck up, is she a tax expert , I highly doubt it !!!! Stupid bitch!!!

  • free scrap metal!....the scrappers would have that cleaned up in a couple hours!

  • wow, I hear a child that needs the shit slapped out of it.
