Newark, New Jersey Mayor Cory Booker discusses the failure of the American education system and the urgent need for the country's citizens to work together to fix it. After recalling a story in which he was told, "you can always go three inches further," Booker challenges the citizens of America to push for transformative change, and encourages the education sector to build on the successes of high performing schools by creating more. As Booker points out, schools can create radical transformation in children's lives -- but only those children who are lucky enough to get into one of the "good" schools. Those entering underperforming schools are often more likely to go into prison that to secure full time jobs. New Jersey alone spends billions of dollars each year as a result of the failed education system; indeed, consulting firm McKinsey conducted a study that declared that the country's GDP would grow by trillions of dollars if it were able to increase graduation rates. • He is pointing out the problems in the schools but nothing about social problems in Newark that contributes to it..... Its not like attending a school in any inner city is like living in a bubble. He might be a good glib talker to the average citizen, but to me a typical political sell out...nothing special...nothing new

  • Hi @saasaasaa010101 Thanks for your comment. The schools in the STC network are successful despite the social problems that are persistent in the communities where the students come from. He is speaking towards the ideal that all inner city schools be successful regardless of who attends them. It's possible and that is what we are working towards.

  • There are four different styles of teaching and learning. My question is, how can one teacher reach 30 students?

    How many will learn?

Why does American youth not read boring ass books filled with theory and lies?

because they have life-like video games, and youtube.
