Mmmmkay...how much of that hardware do you actually need? Shouldn't you be able to just use a single PIC chip's PWM and an amplifying transistor to drive the line?
Also, protocol isn't secret. Not sure what was 'cracked'.

@lunatunatic I don't understand it either. The protocol is not a secret and I don't think it ever was. It is information that everyone has access to.

Cracked? The full protocol is described in over 1000 places on the internet.
And it only costs about $50 or something for a legal copy of the protocol description.
