After hours and hours of trying to get YT to recognize my HD files as HD, it FINALLY found a happy format:
Alternate stream and download of the source mp4 at http://vimeo.com/2663023 .

These are some shots in the backyard using an HF10 on a tripod. There are contrasting shots (with and without lens) between a semi-dead tree and a gnarly looking palm thing in my neighbor's backyard. On each subject, I zoom from full W to full T.

The content isn't very exciting, but I hope the compare/contrast between the standard and wide angle converter is useful to somebody.

I did color correct in Vegas MSP9, one event on the video track using the Studio RGB to the Computer RGB preset.

And one parameter I left out of my in-video text, the shots were all using 60i framerate. The video is all using the P exposure mode and Sunlight white balance preset.

  • everyone asking about vignetting, I didn't notice anything particularly egregious. These are shot with it in wide so use it as a guide. I am using a 60d now but recently pulled back out the old HF so perhaps I'll make another test video particularly for that. This is still the best WA lens for the cameras on which it will fit.

Furthermore, I did see a hood of some kind on amazon the other day and tried to pick it up but it was sold out.

  • So wait what did u do to get it as clear as you did? cuz i have the exact same setup as u and it is givin me qual problems

  • Do you mean what did I do to make the video itself clear ? (camera, lens??) or what did I do to finally get YT to take what I was giving it and render it as high def?

  • Both mostly rendering

  • Well, despite what the help videos said, I had to bump the minimum datarate to about 8Mbps on a 1280x720 wmv file to get it to trigger transcoding in HD. I have NOT been able to get an mp4 file to show up as HD, even when the file is bigger by several megabytes. It took me a full day of work (about 8 hours of fooling around) to get HD to show up, and this was the result. Now I just use WMV every time.

  • However, on vimeo I am able to get good results using MP4s.

As for the camera/lens setup - I did nothing. You can see where I'm just holding the lens out in front and moving it, unscrewed. Of course the thing was on a cheap but functional tripod, and the zooms done via remote.

  • does it have dark edges when you use the wide lens?

  • Has ANYONE found a lens hood that you can use with the Canon WD-H37 II lens? I have it hooked onto an HF200 and have seen guys with big boxy hoods, but can't find where to buy one for the life of me! Suggestions?

  • thanks for the comparison!

  • i've got the WD-H37 and it does the same thing. Theyre very nice lenses

  • Remember Tattoo, the little fellow from "Fantasy Island"?

You know what his favorite donut was?

    Da Plain, Da Plain.

Excellent video test, wanting to spend another couple hundred on lenses after the cost of the cam is hard but these type vids really help in the decision making.

    Thank you.

  • Hello,

I'd like to know if you saw any vignetts in the clips taken with this lens?

  • Was the board curved because of the lens or was it curved in real life?
