[This post of the song updates the one recently uploaded. It includes the song's words on the video screen. Now you can sing along!]

A few years ago when he was a state assemblyman, Richard Brodsky presented the dangers of the Indian Point nuclear plant to songwriters at a People's Music Network gathering. After outlining why the plant should be closed, he requested a song be written about it titled, "Kiss Your Ass Goodbye".

Heather Lev wrote one with a couple of days. It took me a bit longer, about two weeks. With the recent horrible happenings in Japan, and with New York's Governor Cuomo on record as believing it is too dangerous to keep open, it is time to share this and get the word out.

Here is "Kiss Your Ass Goodbye", from an October 30, 2010 performance at The People's Voice Cafe, in New York City. Thanks to John Todras (L. Egan D'ivori) and Elyzsabeth Ahne for all their help.

Save the world and save where you live.
There is no safe nuclear power.

Kiss Your Ass Goodbye

There's a place called Indian Point.
It's an unsafe nuclear joint.
It threatens everybody and it poisons everything.
It's worst on the public safety list
And a target for a terrorist.
We have a chance to close it down and this is why we sing...

[chorus: sing twice]
Kiss your ass goodbye. Kiss your ass goodbye.
If we don't close Indian Point
You can kiss your ass goodbye.

Within 50 miles from where it is
21 million people live
A good part of the nation could be lost with one mistake,
Or a bomb, or an air..o-plane.
The question remains who would gain
Jeopardizing people's lives
With the chances that we take?

This thing 'bout nuclear energy,
It doesn't make much sense to me.
Waste disposal is impossible
And the danger grows each day.
It shows up in the baby teeth,
In the air and water underneath,
And is causing everyone I know
To live in fear and say...

We're being asked now to believe if things go wrong then we can leave.
Do they think we're stupid? There's no evacuation plan.
You'd sit in traffic till you die, and all the time you'd wonder
Why we didn't stop it then. We must do it while we can.

You can't file an insurance claim. You can't find someone else to blame.
You will not be protected by the corporate rules and regs.
So, give yourself and life a chance. Disable nuclear bombs and plants,
Or you can bend right over, put your head between your legs and,
[chorus]

  • This song applies to what is going on now. There is a lot of stress about nuclear plants sitting on faults. What is going on in Japan is absolutely catostrophic.
